FORTRESSES IN BUDVA

Churchs Monasteries


Citadel

City fortress called the "Citadel" is situated on a cliff. It is supposed that it has been constructed in 840. The city walls meet the Citadel and make the unique fortification system. A well and the arsenal provided a long-term protection of the citizens during the war.


Fort Kastio

Fort Kastio was built by Venetians in 16th century. It was used as military station at that time. The name Kastel Lastva or Kastio came from the name of this castle. The oldest sanitary building in this area is "Lazaret" in Petrovac from the 16th century. During the epidemics it was used for sick people's hospitalization and as a quarantine as well.


Fort Kosmac

Kosmac is an Austrian fortress above Becici, in a place called Braici built in 19th century. It was border mark between Austria-Hungary and Montenegro.


Fort Mogren

Mogren fort was built in 1860 during Austria-Hungary rule. It was a strong military base aimed to protect Budva from west side attacks.
